Dan, I think I'm in the right place. Cheesy I am on 1 mg. Klonopin and have been for 12 years. I have read conflicting advice on web on best way to come off the K. Some say V is good-smoother taper, etc. Some get sick on V and can be difficult to get off. Water taper-good I guess. Dry cutting seems to be labeled as most harsh. I would like to know people's opinions that have done either of these methods. I guess none of it is easy but wanted to go route that seemed most successful. I realize everyone is different.

Thanks in advance (and to you Dan),

Hi Just my opinion......
I would learn water titration and try to taper off the klonopin. Many crossover to valium and then taper...some do well and others wish they had just tapered off the klonopin.
If you are stable on the klonopin...thats what i would do.
I am water titrating valium.....i think its working well....i didnt crossover.

Thanks Gus for reply. Yes, I am stable on K. I am also having trouble finding a doctor to give me Valium. I think all signs are pointing to water taper. Thanks. Afro Jean

Hello Jean and welcome to the forum. We will do our best to help you get off as smoothly and safely as we can.

To answer you question, 1mg of klonopin equals 20mg of valium.  Many people cross over to valium because it has a longer half life and it can for many people make for a smoother taper as a result.  For example, the risk of inter dose withdrawal is reduced.  It is also possible to dry cut for most if not all of the taper.  Klonopin, because it is a very potent drug is almost impossible to dry cut in sufficiently small portions to give you a slow taper.  Water titration was developed to address this problem and many people can successfully taper from klonopin using WT.

Crossing over is worthwhile if you are having problems on the klonopin as for some people valium is a gentler drug.  On the other hand, crossing over does not work for a small percentage of people as they have problems adapting to valium.  Remember also that crossing over can take some time.

Best wishes

Yep..
If you titrate the klonopin you would want to probably divide your dose in to 3 or even 4 equal doses to reduce interdose symptoms. Even on Valium i have to do this.

Good idea, Gus! Have you heard of using milk to taper? I know you can't blend it because it foams but supposed to bind with fat in milk. Just stir I guess? I know I will need help with all the decimals when I begin  Shocked. I wonder if it matters what size pills I have? Still the 1 mg.? Sorry for all the questions but have no idea what I'm doing!

Jean
I would strongly counsel against using milk.  It has no upsides as far as I can see and makes it impossible to  visually check to see if your water dose is mixed properly.  If you have a problem with the taste, then add some flavour to your dose after it is mixed and measured.  Also there is no conclusive evidence that the pill particles bind with milk.

I suggest that you study the following links to water titration http://benzowithdrawal.com/forum/index.php?topic=11.0
http://benzowithdrawal.com/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl
and then come back with any questions.  There is a heap of other material on the board as well.

Hi
It can seem like too much at first glance....believe me you can do it and its well worth learning.

I read and asked questions...I got my supplies....I did a little practice....I ask more questions...I set a day to begin....I started on that day.

I live in the USA as you will see from the way my doctors have treated me. I have been on Valium, Restoril, and ambien for several years. 40mg Valium 30mg Restoril and 20mg Ambien. I went to  rehab center (first mistake). The adictionoligist I was assigned just laughed at the comparisons in the Asht
