Dan, I think I'm in the right place.

I am on 1 mg. Klonopin and have been for 12 years. I have read conflicting advice on web on best way to come off the K. Some say V is good-smoother taper, etc. Some get sick on V and can be difficult to get off. Water taper-good I guess. Dry cutting seems to be labeled as most harsh. I would like to know people's opinions that have done either of these methods. I guess none of it is easy but wanted to go route that seemed most successful. I realize everyone is different.
Thanks in advance (and to you Dan),
Jean
Hello Jean and welcome to the forum. We will do our best to help you get off as smoothly and safely as we can.
To answer you question, 1mg of klonopin equals 20mg of valium. Many people cross over to valium because it has a longer half life and it can for many people make for a smoother taper as a result. For example, the risk of inter dose withdrawal is reduced. It is also possible to dry cut for most if not all of the taper. Klonopin, because it is a very potent drug is almost impossible to dry cut in sufficiently small portions to give you a slow taper. Water titration was developed to address this problem and many people can successfully taper from klonopin using WT.
Crossing over is worthwhile if you are having problems on the klonopin as for some people valium is a gentler drug. On the other hand, crossing over does not work for a small percentage of people as they have problems adapting to valium. Remember also that crossing over can take some time.
Best wishes
