Molly,

I just stumbled on to this posting and want you to know that I am hopeful.  I am 6 months off of xanax and begin to wonder if life does ever come back fully.

It is so good to read that you are happy and feel better.  When did you notice improvement?

Thank you for sharing your story.

7 months xanax XR use.  Topped out at 6mg per day for a short stint and then had that dose cut in 1/2 overnight.  Started a "taper" plan in July 2008 from remaining 3mg and cut .25mg per week for one month.  Have been xanax free for 2 YEARS!! (since Aug. 8, 2008) !  You are worth the hard work it takes to become benzo free-DON'T GIVE UP!

We should never despair; our situation before has been unpromising and has changed for the better, so I trust it will again - George Washington

Molly,

Thank you so much for your inspiring story.  It seemed so overwhelming to me 18 days ago when I realized I was unknowingly addicted to benzos.  Reading all the stories of all the people on this site has been such a blessing.  Reading your post gave me hope that I will be able to do this and that I might even be able to kayak again.  This struggle is such a shock for an outdoor person like me.

Thanks for giving me hope.

I am now about 15 months free from ALL drugs and I continue to improve!!  I feel as if I keep shedding more and more layers of the effects of these drugs.
When I wrote in November that I was completely healed I did not anticipate that I was still on the journey as I would have been content to live out life in that state of mind.  But I am finding that I continually get better and better in miniscule increments.  I am staying clear of alcohol, supplements, and trying to eat as healthy and clean as possible.  My sleep is back to normal for the most part.

Life is good!!!

Be patient as I believe we will all heal if we allow our bodies the time it needs!!  Once again, I believe in the healing properties of exercise also.

Bear in mind everyone, Molly and I were both wrecks a couple years ago.

Molly, I have been benzo free for 9 months but just now chucked the anti depressants. I'm not where I want to be yet so I am mighty grateful that you came to encourage us. Thank you.

thank you so much for this inspiring post. I am so glad that you were able to make it off the meds and successfully move on with your life. It seems so difficult when you are in the middle of the storm and just knowing that someone came out the other side makes me feel better. Thanks again for sharing your story

It is now about 16 months and I continue to improve both physically and most importantly my mental health is great.  The depression and ruminations are gone.  I don't wake in the morning thinking abt w/d anymore.  I sleep like a baby.  I look forward to each day and the enjoy my own company again.  I have no fear about the future and no real regrets abt the past.  My mind is clear for the first time in 20+ years.  Getting off ALL THE DRUGS (including the a/d's) has been so wonderful.  I must admit I am bothered lately by some of the threads on this board advocating all the "healthy" supplements, antidepressants, etc. that people are claiming worked for them.  I was tempted MANY times to add drugs to my recovery but something intuitively told me to wait it out.  To those of you reading this, please reconsider your decision if you are experimenting with more drugs or supplements.  TIME is the great healer.  Being totally drug free is the greatest feeling in the world.  Believe me!!  I know tapering and w/d is hell.  I have  been through the fire.  I KNOW how dark the world can appear.  It is the drugs!! Afro

Just my opinion!! Afro

molly,

good to hear from you and yeah, the ADs promotion isn't useful - it is counterproductive as is the natural "cures"

i think the goal here is to do as you did - taper off and let time heal > you are living proof it works

i am tired of the AD promotion and the "magic onions" too - my thing is just reject all of that and taper off everything and have a clear head, drug free

you sound so positive molly - it's great!!!
