Dalmane taper

Shelby, this is what I am doing at this moment...my schedule ....by the way I was only on 15mg and not 30mg so I started out with half the amount you were on.  You have done well...just don't rush....I am going very slowly in % as I cannot tolerate the big cuts, but as I get down more (when I resume) I will do tiny cuts until off....

OK, so this is where I was at when I started to withdraw again...I am now down to 10mgs and holding until I feel better...this was starting at 12 mg as I had already cut down to that from 15mg.
 
- you have 15mg capsules that you want to use in a water taper process.
- you don't want to cut daily, you want to make small % cuts as and when you can (this was my choice to move slowly_

2.5%=3ml of water removed from 15mg dissolved in 150mls of water.

If you want to do 10% figure it from there...

The important thing is to find a place to start a taper. Dr Breggin says to start coming off psyche drugs with a 10 % cut and then do those periodically. Ashton will more or less agree with that because all her schedules start with cuts of less than 10%. So this 10% is the guideline that you hear everyone say. But it is a GUIDELINE and it is not a rule. A much better rule would be to say start your taper with a 10% cut and then see how you feel and adjust the size of your cut accordingly. If you follow that rule then the math doesn't have to bother you so much all you need to do is to make a small cut that is under 1/10th of the dose you are taking and if it hurts too much then next time you just cut less. At the end of your taper you just make the cuts you can tolerate until you are off - if a cut of a given size gets too much then you reduce its size next time - it doesn't have to be 10% of the current dose - it is just what you can tolerate.
 
2. Just to reinforce this look at the last bit of a AShton taper from 10mg of valium - that is what she recommends

if you cut from 10mg to 9mg - that is a 10% cut
if you cut from 3mg to 2mg that is a cut of 33%
if you cut from 2mg to 1mg that is a cut of 50%
 
and lastly
 
when you cut from 1mg to 0mg that is a cut of 100%
 
so at the end of a taper the 10% cut guideline goes out of the window.
 
3. So the message here - is as long as you start with a cut you can manage and then just cut within your capabilities to tolerate them the math isn't that important

I can't thank you enough for responding and offering such help. Dalmane is such an old drug that no ones squat about it. It's scary drug to me cause I cant' get off it''' Now I know about the Water Titration Method and hoping this will get me benzo free.

Shelby;  I used to take Dalmane for a long time, many years ago.  It worked well for insomnia because it stays in the body a long time, and one doesn't awake turing the night like with ativan, and others, as much.  So , I think Dalmane would be a good benzo to withdraw  with, since it has a long half life.  Good luck.    JIM

Shelby, that is what I started with.  150ml of water.  I am now down to taking out 36ml of drug water to throw out.  Perhaps a little more water will dilute the  taste..but if you do that, you always have to start with that amount.

Shelby I would go with 100mls.

Please remember to decrease and then hold.  Maybe decrease for 5 nights then hold for 5 nights and see how your feel.

YOu need to take this very slowly or your sleep will just deteriorate further.

Hi Shelby,  That was around 23 years ago one of the first I used for sleep, when I was working various shifts.  At that time I just switched to another, maybe restoril.  The last benzo I used was almost 4 months ago  1 mg  of benzo.  I dry cut for maybe a month or so.  Now I still have symptoms, though most days recently have been much better than the first month off.  That was especially brutal.  I think the Dalmane withdrawal, slowly like you are doing it, should go well.  There will be some symptoms.  No way around that.  Wish you success.   JIM

I've been on various meds for years and came off all of them but Dalmane. Been on it over 7 years at least and really want to be off of it.When I stopped it cold at 15 mg. it throw me against the wall and had to restart unfortunately.

I blend the 30mg powered capsule in 200ml water and put half in calibrated cylinder for measured tapering.Hold each new 1ml taper for 4 days to see how I'm doing.May speed it up some but if I start feeling crummy will drop back.

Think I'll try lower 1ml for 5 days then hold for 5 days. The way I've been tapering will take one year to do. So if I start having problems I'll back track. Many thanks''
