not sure if this is a great idea but a while ago my doc wanted to try topimax for my migraines. I really didn't like the side it and didn't keep using it. So I ended up taking one today as I had a headache with my WD's from not having any valium and it seamed to curb my WD's a bit, not a lot but a bit. Is this something that should be frowned on or did I just get lucky?? Sorry if I am touching on a bad topic, I am just desperate for relief and almost ready to try anything

My neuro. recommended topamax for the headaches, saying that it should curb w/d's as well. I thought about taking it, but I believe it works on the same receptors as benzos. Not 100% on that though. So, I knew if I started taking it, I was just delaying my success and was adding another drug to taper from down the road. The nerve pain headaches are terrible...well, all of the weird headaches are terrible. It gets better though. I am almost a year out and I do still get daily headaches, but nearly as bad!!!

Maybe others have experience with it here and could chime in??

prescribed ativan after ER visit for ear/neck pain. took for about 2 weeks (.5 - 1mg) and contacted another Dr. who switched me to Clonazepam (.5 mg/day). took for about 2 weeks and started to wean. Came off too fast. Reinstated, but not at a high enough dose to get me stable. Took me 6 months to come off altogether...VERY painful. Still suffering w/d symptoms 10 months later. Successfully tapered 5 mg lexapro. Diagnosed with lyme disease via positive blood test, history of tick bites, and clinical symptoms (which are exactly the same as benzo symptoms, so very confusing.)

jwal I have had a lot of problems with severe headaches in the past and also during the withdrawal process.  I resist taking any medication for it.  I think even things like tylenol sometimes have a rebound effect, and cause even greater headaches.  I have had some really awful ones.   Jim

Many years of prescribed benzos, used for insomnia.
Last benzo use, around  April 26, 2010.
Got off by dry cutting fairly fast from 1 mg of ativan.
Not a doctor or health care person. Just offering friendly advice based on personal experiences.  Good luck, all my forum friends.  JIM

Jim is correct IMO, I think that OTC's such as Tylenol and so on can have an adverse side effect, the headaches go away... I've had them, I have taken Ibuprofen if it got too bad, but I'm not saying go out and take it. As for Topamax, I have taken it before, It is to prevent headaches and/or an Anti-Epileptic.
I would suggest not taking it, because you may find yourself tapering that.
AE's most cannot just stop like Keppra, Lamictal, Neurontin and so on... as a seizure could occur...
Best to just wait the headaches out IMO.

you guys are probably the only 'true' friends I have right now. My friends in the real world know what I'm going through, but they don't bother checking in on me. You guys are the best. Smiley
